Khalsa Aid Youth Leadership · 2026 / 2027

A year that changes what you think you can do.

Grade 9 to 12 students across Toronto, Peel and Hamilton do one seva project a month from September to May. Food banks, shelters, tree planting, warm langar downtown. Then your team plans and runs a project of your own, paid for by Khalsa Aid. Free to join, and we sign off your community involvement hours.

The program

What the year actually looks like.

The Khalsa Aid Youth Leadership program runs from September 2026 to May 2027, and it is built to turn high school students into people who can organize, lead, and serve without waiting to be asked. Over the year you will build skills you can use anywhere: public speaking, event planning, budgeting, fundraising, running a team, and the confidence to hold a real conversation with any adult in the room. You will serve at shelter drop-offs and downtown homeless seva, support the FCJ Refugee Centre, run jacket, grocery and toy drives, plant trees with the City of Brampton and Credit Valley Conservation, help at langar seva and health screening clinics, and walk with us at Nagar Kirtan. You will work directly with City officials and community partners, and you will meet and network with professionals worth asking questions of: medical students, doctors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, and politicians. Our leadership seminars cover how students actually get into the toughest and most competitive Ontario university programs, taught by people who got in and by the students sitting in those programs right now. Then, at the end of the year, you stop helping with someone else's project. You and your team design and run your own seva project, and Khalsa Aid funds it.

Skills you keep

Public speaking, event planning, budgets, fundraising, and leading a team of your peers. These go on your application and into the rest of your life.

People you meet

City officials, community partners, medical students, doctors, entrepreneurs, lawyers and politicians. Ask them how they got there. They will tell you.

A project that is yours

The year ends with a capstone your team designs, budgets, and delivers. Khalsa Aid pays for it. You run it.

For parents

Read this part carefully.

We would rather you decide with the full picture than find out later.

Consent form required before enrolment

An online form goes to every parent to review and sign.

Before we can enrol any teen, we send an online consent form to their parent or guardian to read and sign. No student is enrolled until that form comes back signed. Please read it properly rather than scrolling to the signature.

Here is what we need you to understand. Our seva takes teens across Toronto and the GTA, and we drive them to areas where vulnerable people live, including downtown streets, shelters, and refugee centres. There is a small risk in that. It is small, but it is real, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Khalsa Aid Canada has never had a safety incident in our youth seva. We intend to keep it that way, and we work at it. But every parent signing this form should go in with their eyes open, not on the assumption that nothing can ever go wrong.

  • Girls with girls, boys with boysStudents are grouped by gender for every journey. This is why the form asks for your teen's gender.
  • Adults on every outingStudents are never sent out on their own. Adult volunteers stay with the group from pickup to drop-off.
  • Licensed and insured driversEvery driver is a volunteer our leads know personally, with a valid licence, their own auto insurance, and a seat belt for every passenger. We are introducing police record checks for everyone who drives.
  • You can opt out of ridesDrop your teen off and collect them yourself on any date you like. Just tell the team lead.
  • You know the planEvery date is listed below. We confirm the location, time and pickup point with you before each one.
  • You can ask us anythingEmail abinaash.kaur@khalsaaid.org. A real person answers, and no question is too small.
We need adults too

Come with us.

This program only runs because grown-ups show up alongside the teens. If any of these is you, tick the box in the form below.

Not signing up a student, but want to help anyway? Email abinaash.kaur@khalsaaid.org with your name and we will get you started. Drivers need a valid licence and their own insurance.

Parents

We are looking for parents to volunteer. Drive, supervise, carry boxes, or just be another steady adult in the group. You do not need any experience, and you will see exactly what your teen is doing.

Older siblings

We would love older brothers and sisters to come out with their younger siblings. It changes how a teen shows up when family is doing the seva beside them.

University students

University students are very welcome. Many become the mentors our teens look up to, and you are the ones who can honestly answer how you got into your program.

Signup

Sign up for 2026/2027.

Fill this in and a member of our team will email the parent consent form to the address you give us, usually within three days. Enrolment is confirmed once that form comes back signed. If it has not arrived within a week, email abinaash.kaur@khalsaaid.org.

Student details

We ask for these two so we can group students safely for travel. Girls travel with girls and boys travel with boys, and age helps us plan the groups. Only the youth co-ordinators see them.

School
Parent or guardian
Can anyone in your family volunteer with us?

We use these details only to run the Youth Leadership program and to send the parent consent form. They are seen by the youth co-ordinators and team leads, nobody else, and we delete them at the end of the 2026/2027 season unless you ask us to keep them for the following year. Khalsa Aid Canada does not sell or share your information. Questions about the program or this form are answered by the contacts at the bottom of this page.

Someone has to show up.

This year, let it be you. Sign up, bring a friend, and we will take it from there.
